I just want to say I love my Garmin! The package I bought is not the more expensive GPS version… The only thing that I do not get with this version is elevation gain and the GPS mapping of the run. However the FR60 does allow me to log stats on a treadmill while the GPS version does not. The package I have was bundled with the watch, a heart rate monitor strap, a foot pod and an ant stick. These are for sale for $199.99.
The foot pod fits into a pouch in the tongue of my Saucony hurricanes so I don’t use it clipped to my laces. It was easily calibrated and matches the local 5k race route in distance. I believe that the motion it reads is not like a pedometer which counts the foot strikes, but rather it counts the foot swing. If you jog in place it doesn’t read any distance but if you have the foot pod on your right foot, and you stand on your left and swing your right foot it will think you are running and attempt to calculate distance.
The heart rate strap is comfortable to wear (although it does get sweaty and needs aired out to dry between workouts) and allows for constant heart rate visibility on the watch (some heart rate monitors require you to touch the watch with two fingers to display your heart rate).
I do not have the bike sensor (yet) but when I get it I can keep my cycling stats just like my running stats.
The ANT stick plugs into my laptop just like a jump drive. I down loaded the necessary software and when the ANT stick is plugged in and I am within 5 meters of my laptop my training data automatically uploads to my Garmin Connect account.
I can view my activities on the calendar (I like this because I can see my weekly totals at a glance), see my splits, see graphs of cadence, heart rate BPM, pace and or speed etc…
